Wikipedia defines EXIF (Exchangeable image file format) as a file format specification for images used by digital cameras. These are data embedded in the photo as text, including:
- information about the date and time the photo was taken,
- the brand and model of the camera,
- camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed, focal length, etc.,
- GPS information for locating the photo.
A sample of EXIF data is shown opposite.
1. Use Case

There are two cases:
- If you have the image file on your computer, USB stick, etc., you can go directly to step 2 or 3.
- If the image is on a website, you need to download it first. Usually, right-click and "Save image as..." works.
2. Accessing EXIF data locally
Once the image is downloaded, right-clicking it allows you to display its properties:
In the "Details" tab, you will find some of the photo's EXIF data:
You can delete EXIF data from the properties window. However, only data considered "personal" by Microsoft is deleted.
Specialized tools are often more effective. Here are a few options:

- Exif Pilot for Windows, which allows both viewing and editing EXIF data:
3. Accessing EXIF data online
Another solution is to use online services. We've developed our own tool based on ExifTool, available at https://www.osint4fun.eu/exif/.
The analysis is fast, and files are immediately deleted afterward to ensure privacy.
4. Conclusion
EXIF data are "hidden" metadata found in many photos. It is useful to know how to view or delete them if needed. Major platforms like Facebook automatically remove them. Recent versions of Android store EXIF separately, so shared photos do not contain metadata.
